If you do not have either a Money Market Fund (MMF) or a Fixed Income Fund (FIF), I have one question:
Where are you keeping money for your short- and long-term financial goals?
Your cash should not sit idle in a bank account earning little or nothing when better alternatives exist.
Now, let the numbers speak.
Here is how the Top 7 FIFs and MMFs performed as at 31st August 2026, based on annualized net returns after management fees and 15% withholding tax.

- Arvocap Almasi Fund — 16.08%
- Lofty-Corban Bond Fund — 11.55%
- Etica Fixed Income Fund — 11.19%
- Sanlam Fixed Income Fund — 11.18%
- Zimele Fixed Income Fund — 11.14%
- Kuza Fixed Income Fund — 9.67%
- Co-op Bond Fund — 9.66%
MONEY MARKET FUNDS

- Faulu Money Market Fund — 9.44%
- Cytonn Money Market Fund — 9.42%
- Jubilee Money Market Fund — 9.10%
- Lofty Corban MMF — 9.10%
- Enwealth Money Market Fund — 9.00%
- Kuza Money Market Fund — 8.99%
What Do The Numbers Tell Us?
Fixed Income Funds comfortably win the return battle.
Out of the top 7 FIFs, 5 delivered net annualized returns above 10%.
Among the top 7 MMFs, none crossed the 10% net mark.
The highest FIF, Arvocap Asset Managers Almasi at 16.08%, was 6.60 percentage points ahead of the highest MMF, Nabo at 9.48%.
But does this mean you should abandon MMFs?
Absolutely not.
The best investment is not simply the one with the highest return.
It is the one that matches the purpose of your money.
MMFs primarily invest in short-term instruments such as Treasury Bills, commercial papers, fixed deposits and call deposits.
They are excellent for:
- Emergency Funds
- Sinking Funds
- Parking idle cash
- Short-term goals
- Investment accumulation
FIFs invest more heavily in government bonds, corporate bonds and other medium- to long-term fixed-income securities.
They are better suited for:
- Children’s Education
- Home Purchase or Construction
- Retirement Planning
- Business Expansion
- Financial Freedom Portfolios
- Long-term Wealth Growth
- Building Passive Income
My Approach?
MMF for liquidity and short-term money.
High-quality FIFs for medium- to long-term wealth building.
Don’t ask, “Which fund is better?”
Ask:
“What job do I need this money to perform?”
