Ksh 50 Million Investment Plan — Target: Ksh 500,000 Monthly Passive Income

If you had Ksh 50 million sitting in your Bank Account or Bank Fixed Deposit Account..

How would you invest it to generate an average of Ksh 500,000 every month while protecting your capital?

That is the real challenge.

I have helped several clients structure investment portfolios around similar goals, and one thing is clear:

At this level, you don’t just chase returns. You engineer the portfolio.

So today, let’s structure a probable investment plan for a 55-year-old approaching retirement.

The objective is simple:

Target: Ksh 500,000 average monthly income

Priority: Capital preservation

Risk Profile: Conservative to Moderate

Focus: Reliable income over aggressive growth

Maximum: 5 investment opportunities

I’ll give you two possible approaches.

Ksh 50 Million Investment Plan

1. CONSERVATIVE PORTFOLIO

The primary objective here is capital preservation and dependable income.

I would build the foundation around:

  • Infrastructure Bonds
  • Fixed Income Funds
  • Selective exposure to Special Funds

The bulk of the Ksh 50M would sit in relatively defensive, income-generating assets.

Special funds would only provide controlled exposure to potentially higher returns.

Preserve First. Earn Second.

Because at 55, you cannot manage your retirement portfolio the same way a 30-year-old manages a wealth accumulation portfolio.

  1. MODERATE PORTFOLIO

Here, we increase the growth component while still protecting the core portfolio.

The foundation remains:

  • Infrastructure Bonds
  • Fixed Income Funds

Then we introduce controlled exposure to:

  • Special Funds
  • Equity Funds

Equities bring additional volatility, so I would limit this allocation to around 16% of the portfolio.

The Goal?

Create a portfolio capable of generating strong income while giving part of the capital room to grow.

But here is something important:

Ksh 500,000 monthly from Ksh 50M means withdrawing Ksh 6M annually — equivalent to a 12% annual cash yield.

That is an ambitious target if capital preservation is non-negotiable.

So, the portfolio must be structured carefully around return, income distribution, liquidity, inflation and risk.

That is the difference between simply investing money and engineering a retirement income portfolio.

Now it’s your turn:

How would you invest Ksh 50 Million to target Ksh 500,000 monthly while preserving capital?

And if you have Ksh 1M, 5M, 10M, 30M, 50M or 100M and you’re struggling to structure it properly:
